Union members in Washington, D.C. have set up a food pantry to help those affected by the ongoing government shutdown, which has now lasted more than 30 days. The initiative provides canned goods to the public and collects donations for local food banks that are supporting laid-off federal workers, including members of IAM Union and NFFE-IAM.

The effort comes as federal SNAP funding nears exhaustion, increasing concerns about access to basic necessities among furloughed employees.
