The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has called on the U.S. Senate to approve the Protect America’s Workforce Act, a bill designed to restore collective bargaining rights for federal employees. This follows an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on March 27 that ended collective bargaining for federal unions.
IAM International President Brian Bryant sent letters to both members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, urging them to support the legislation, known as H.R. 2550. The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and has garnered bipartisan support.
“IAM Union strongly supports the Protect America’s Workforce Act for restoring collective bargaining rights to the nation’s federal workforce,” said Bryant in his communication with lawmakers.
Federal workers play a vital role in serving Americans, according to IAM statements. The union argues that collective bargaining not only provides protections for these workers but also leads to better public service outcomes.
“IAM Union is a diverse labor union representing thousands of federal workers, including those represented by the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), an affiliate representing approximately 110,000 federal workers across the U.S.”
