International Walk for Peace arrives in Gwinnett County with local officials’ support

The International Walk for Peace is set to arrive in Gwinnett County, with Buddhist monks visiting as part of their worldwide effort to promote peace, reflection, and unity. The event will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 1:30 p.m. at Wat Lao Buddha Khanti, located at 4052 Ozora Church Road SW in Snellville.

Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson will welcome the monks and recognize the Walk for Peace during the visit. According to organizers, state and local officials as well as spiritual leaders are also expected to participate and deliver remarks.

Gwinnett County is home to a diverse community. In the 2022-23 school year, county schools enrolled a total of 190,044 students according to data from the Georgia Department of Education (https://www.gadoe.org/). Enrollment increased by less than 0.1% compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students made up 18% of Gwinnett County’s student body during that period (https://www.gadoe.org/).

The arrival of the International Walk for Peace highlights ongoing efforts within Gwinnett County to support multicultural events and foster dialogue among its residents.
