The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM Union) has called on Congress to support the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550), a bipartisan bill aimed at restoring collective bargaining rights for federal workers that were removed by an executive order from President Donald Trump in March.

A total of 218 House members from both parties have signed a discharge petition, H. Res. 432, compelling consideration of the legislation introduced by Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) and Jared Golden (D-Maine). The bill seeks to overturn the executive order titled “Exclusions from the Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs,” which affected about 75% of federal employees by removing their collective bargaining rights.

“Federal workers matter,” wrote IAM Union International President Brian Bryant. “These are hard-working individuals who are our neighbors, our relatives and our friends, and they’ve taken the civic duty to ensure our nation keeps moving forward. Federal workers deserve the right of collective bargaining, which provides protections in the workplace and better service to the public, just to name a few benefits.”

IAM represents thousands of federal workers through its affiliate, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which includes approximately 110,000 federal employees.

The union is urging all members of Congress to support passage of this legislation to reinstate collective bargaining rights for federal employees.

IAM is one of North America’s largest industrial trade unions with around 600,000 active and retired members across various sectors in the United States and Canada.
