The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Midwest Territory and District 77 held the 25th Annual Guide Dogs of America (GDA) Charity Golf Tournament, known as the “John Massetti Memorial,” in Minnesota on Sunday. The event brought together fifty-six golfers who helped raise over $15,000 for Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. More than $5,000 in raffle prizes were also distributed, made possible by donations from supporters and sponsors.

The tournament began a quarter-century ago when John Massetti, a member of Local 1833, organized the first event. At that time, most GDA fundraisers were motorcycle runs, but Massetti introduced the golf tournament to unite members for charity. Although he passed away about twenty years ago, IAM District 77 and Local 1833 have continued to organize the event each year.

“I want to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to come out and support Guide Dogs of America,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “It’s because of the dedication and hard work of our members, our retirees, and our volunteers that this event continues to be such a success.”

“This tournament is more than just a day on the golf course,” said IAM District 77 Directing Business Representative Andrew Peltier. “It’s a powerful way to honor John Massetti’s legacy and make a real difference in the lives of those who rely on Guide Dogs of America. The commitment and generosity of everyone involved is truly inspiring.”

The annual event supports Guide Dogs of America’s mission to provide guide dogs and service dogs for people in need. Over its 25-year history, the tournament has become an important tradition among IAM members in Minnesota.
