After more than two months on strike, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 1297 at Libbey Glass in Toledo have voted to ratify a union-proposed agreement intended to end the labor dispute that began on August 23. The offer is now pending approval from Libbey Glass management.
The proposal was developed by the union in response to several concerns raised by its members. Key issues included mandatory overtime policies that affected family time, efforts by the company to remove certain rights and protections from workers, and increases in health insurance costs.
“This was a proactive effort by the union to bring an end to the strike and get our members back to work,” said IAM District 54 President and Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. “Our members have stayed strong and united throughout this process, and this offer represents a fair path forward that addresses their core concerns. Now Libbey has a chance to treat their employees right and accept this offer and reinstate stability to its Toledo operations.”
Libbey Glass employs about 84 IAM Union members who manufacture glass products in Toledo for both domestic and international markets.
