Leaders from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) visited IAM Local 2771 members at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, on Mar. 13 as preparations begin for upcoming contract negotiations. The visit included IAM International President Brian Bryant, Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin, and Resident General Vice President Jody Bennett, who met with approximately 550 union members employed by M1 Support Services.
The IAM members play a key role in supporting the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Program (ENJJPT), which is described as the world’s only multi-nationally manned and managed flying training program dedicated to producing combat pilots for NATO. Their daily responsibilities include flight operations and maintenance on T-6 Texan and T-38 Talon aircraft, helping train future NATO pilots.
Bryant said, “The work our members do at Sheppard Air Force Base is essential not only to our national defense, but to the readiness of our NATO allies around the world. As these members prepare for negotiations, the entire IAM stands behind them to ensure their hard work and dedication are recognized at the bargaining table.”
Martin also commented on the importance of the upcoming negotiations: “Our members at Local 2771 keep this critical training mission running every day, and they deserve a strong contract that reflects the value of the work they do. As negotiations approach, our members are united and ready to fight for the improvements they’ve earned.”
The visit comes as union representatives emphasize solidarity among workers ahead of talks with M1 Support Services. The outcome of these negotiations could impact both local workers and ongoing support for international pilot training efforts.
