The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) marked Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada by recognizing the contributions of veterans within its membership. In a message to IAM members, Brian Bryant, International President of IAM, expressed gratitude to those who have served.

“We owe a profound debt of gratitude to the women and men who have been on the front line defending our freedom, protecting our democracy, and the ideals that unite us. Their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to service represent the best in all of us,” Bryant said.

Bryant highlighted how veterans bring their leadership skills and sense of unity back to their communities after military service. “The same dedication that drives our veterans to defend our nation is what motivates them to build a better future for working families when they return home. Their leadership, discipline, and sense of unity strengthen our union and inspire everyone to keep fighting for dignity, justice, and respect at work,” he added.

This year, IAM achieved a milestone by becoming the first labor union officially recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). According to Bryant’s statement: “Through the IAM Veteran Services Program, IAM became the first and only union officially recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This historic designation highlights our union’s commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces. It ensures that IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and a steadfast advocate helping them navigate the system they have honorably earned.”

Bryant concluded with words of appreciation: “To all IAM veterans and every veteran: Thank you! Your courage and service remind us what true solidarity looks like. We may never be able to fully repay the sacrifice you’ve made, but we can – and must – honor it: by supporting each other, fighting for peace and equity, and ensuring every veteran and their family receive the care, opportunities, and respect they deserve.”

He closed his message on behalf of IAM’s entire Executive Council.
