IAM District 19 President and Directing General Chairman Reece Murtagh, along with TCU/IAM Vice-President Nick Peluso, visited Capitol Hill to advocate for the No Tax on Overtime for All Workers Act (H.R. 5475). The legislation, introduced by Representatives Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) and Emilia Sykes (D-Ohio), aims to expand the current overtime tax exemption to include airline, rail, and other FLSA-exempt workers.

Murtagh and Peluso joined legislative staff from both IAM and TCU to thank the bill’s sponsors and discuss strategies for advancing the legislation before the next tax season. The bill is intended to provide overtime tax relief to workers who are currently excluded from existing exemptions.

“This bill expands the current overtime tax exemption to ensure that airline, rail, and millions of other FLSA-exempt workers are eligible for the same overtime tax relief already afforded to millions of working Americans,” according to the organizations.

Supporters of the legislation are urging Congress to extend overtime tax deductions to railroad and airline workers as well.
