Gwinnett County voters have approved the renewal of the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST), with 69.5% voting in favor during the November 4 special election. The renewed one-cent sales tax will support capital projects for Gwinnett County Public Schools and Buford City Schools.

Over 120,000 residents participated in the election, representing about 20.6% of eligible voters in the county. The approval sets up a five-year plan to raise $1.4 billion for improvements to school facilities, safety systems, technology upgrades, transportation, and instructional materials.

The funding will be used to upgrade buildings, expand facilities to accommodate student growth, invest in digital infrastructure, and modernize transportation fleets. These initiatives are aimed at supporting an evolving educational environment and ensuring that local schools remain well-equipped.

The Gwinnett Chamber Board of Directors gave its unanimous endorsement to the E-SPLOST renewal at its September meeting. Nick Masino, President & CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber, stated: “The Gwinnett Chamber was proud to endorse the renewal of the E-SPLOST for Gwinnett County Public Schools and Buford City Schools. Voters showed overwhelming confidence in the funding mechanism for critical capital investments that improve student safety, learning, and achievement.”

Since it began in 1997, E-SPLOST has funded new school construction, technology improvements, safety enhancements, and maintenance across a system serving more than 180,000 students.

By passing this measure again, Gwinnett residents have continued their commitment to investing in education and supporting future workforce development.
