County officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday to mark the completion of renovations at Field 7 in Rabbit Hill Park, Dacula. The baseball field, previously natural-surface, has been converted into a synthetic turf facility intended to offer a smoother and more durable playing surface.
The renovation aims to improve accessibility for individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids by reducing surface irregularities and minimizing weather-related closures. This change is expected to enhance safety, increase opportunities for play, and allow year-round use.
Along with resurfacing the field, upgrades included new fencing, dugouts, foul poles, drainage improvements, an extended retaining wall, and new concrete walkways that comply with ADA standards.
“As a father and a resident, I know how important it is for our community to have spaces where every child feels included,” said District 4 Commissioner Matthew Holtkamp. “With these upgrades, we’re giving every child the opportunity to feel pride in playing the game, the joy of teamwork and the sense of belonging that comes with being part of a team.”
The renovated field is set to support programs for children of all ages and abilities. It will also serve as a resource for local leagues and adaptive sports organizations hosting practices, games, and special events.
Funding for the $730,904 project came from Gwinnett County’s Recreation Fund.
