Dr. Demetria Monix Davis, Ed.D., has been named Adult Education Teacher of the Year at Gwinnett Technical College. The college announced the recognition, highlighting Dr. Monix Davis’s dedication to supporting adult learners and promoting education in the region.

Dr. Monix Davis attributes her passion for teaching to her family background. Her father left school in third grade to help his family but later returned as an adult to earn a high school diploma. She says witnessing how education helped restore his dignity and confidence influenced her own commitment to adult education.

Her teaching approach is shaped by the challenges faced by many of her students, who often juggle work, family duties, and personal obstacles while pursuing their studies. According to Dr. Monix Davis, these experiences make the classroom “a place of hope,” where progress and renewed confidence are visible daily.

“I want every student who enters my classroom to feel seen, supported, and capable,” said Dr. Monix Davis. “Education is more than a pathway to a diploma. It is a pathway to dignity, confidence, and opportunity. My goal is to help students believe in themselves again.”

She emphasizes that building confidence and self-worth is as important as academic achievement for her students’ long-term success. She believes that helping adults gain new skills can benefit not only individuals but also their families and communities.

Dr. Monix Davis expressed pride in representing Gwinnett Technical College through this honor, noting that the institution’s focus on adult learners shows its support for second chances and educational transformation.

She lives in Grayson, Georgia, and holds a Doctor of Education degree from Union University in Memphis, Tennessee.
