Gwinnett County officials are set to open the new Singleton Park and Greenway trailhead with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Singleton Park, located at 5220 Singleton Road in Norcross.
The project converted the former Singleton Activity Building into a two-acre public space. The park now features a playground, a covered picnic area, restroom facilities, a parking lot with 41 spaces, and a three-quarter-mile, 12-foot-wide concrete multiuse trail connecting Singleton Road to Dickens Road.
Funding for the project came from several sources, including Gwinnett’s 2017 SPLOST program and Recreation Fund, the state of Georgia’s Improving Neighborhood Outcomes and Disproportionately Impacted Communities Grant, and a Community Development Block Grant.
Chris Minor, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, will serve as emcee for the ceremony. Speakers will include Gwinnett Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson and District 2 Commissioner Ben Ku.
Parking for the event will be available at the Gwinnett Community Resource Center at Georgia Belle Court, with a shuttle service transporting guests to the ribbon-cutting site.
In recent years, Gwinnett County has seen minimal growth in school enrollment, increasing by less than 0.1% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to data from the Georgia Department of Education (https://www.gadoe.org/). The county’s schools enrolled a total of 190,044 students during that period (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students made up 18% of the student body, ranking as the third largest ethnic group in Gwinnett County schools (https://www.gadoe.org/).
