Gwinnett County will hold its annual Hispanic Latino Heritage Month celebration, Fiesta Familia, on Friday, October 10. The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center Plaza in Lawrenceville.
This year’s theme is “Defining Culture and Influence,” focusing on the voices, stories, and impacts of Hispanics and Latinos who have contributed to industries, communities, and the broader cultural landscape.
Speakers at the event include Muriam Nafees, Director of the Community Engagement and Social Impact Division, as well as representatives from the Gwinnett Youth Commission. Vendors will offer traditional Hispanic and Latino cuisine, and performances are also scheduled.
“Defining Culture and Influence” is intended to highlight how Hispanic and Latino residents have shaped local communities. According to recent data, Gwinnett County schools enrolled a total of 190,044 students in the 2022-23 school year, with enrollment increasing by less than 0.1% compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students were the third most represented ethnic group in Gwinnett County schools, making up 18% of the student body during that period (https://www.gadoe.org/).
The celebration is open to all members of the community.
