Gwinnett County will hold its first Jimmy Carter Day on October 1, 2025, to honor the life and legacy of former President Jimmy Carter. The event is organized at the direction of Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson and will include a ceremony at Best Friend Park in Norcross.

The morning ceremony, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., will feature a special presentation to the Carter family and the unveiling of a new public art installation created in partnership with Gateway85 CID. Additionally, student winners from Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) who participated in the Jimmy Carter Legacy Art and Essay Contest will be recognized.

A build day organized by Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity is also planned as part of the celebration, reflecting Carter’s long-standing commitment to community service. After the unveiling, volunteers will travel to participate in this project.

From October 1 through October 4, the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center (GJAC) in Lawrenceville will be illuminated in blue and white each evening. This lighting coincides with a symbolic blue light that will appear along the Jimmy Carter Boulevard bridge.

Speakers for the event include Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson, District 2 Commissioner Ben Ku, District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III, Gateway85 CID Executive Director Robert Michener, GCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Al Taylor, and Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Eric Miller. Access and Opportunity Officer Aisha DeBerry will serve as emcee.
