Gwinnett County’s Communications Department has received national recognition for its work in public outreach and storytelling. The department was honored at the 2025 Savvy Awards, which are presented by the City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA).

The awards program recognizes excellence in local government communications across the United States. Gwinnett County was recognized in several categories, including first place for its Glass Recycling – Go Green Communication Program Efforts and for Upfront Gwinnett: The Hidden Homeless in the Interview/Talk Show/News Programming category for populations over 100,000.

The department also earned second place for its Transit Referendum Social Media Campaign in the Best Use of Social Media category for populations over 650,000. Two third-place Awards of Excellence were given to the county: one for its 2025 Adopted Budget Video in Education and Training (for populations over 250,000), and another for the Gwinnett Parks and Recreation 2024 NRPA Gold Medal Finalist Video in One-Time Special Programming (for populations over 225,000).

“These recognitions show how hard our team works to make complex topics easy to understand and to tell Gwinnett’s story in ways that truly connect with people,” said Communications Director Joe Sorenson.

Judges cited innovation, community impact, and strong storytelling as reasons behind Gwinnett’s honors. They noted that these programs set a high standard among large cities and counties nationwide.

The Savvy Awards are hosted annually by 3CMA, an association focused on supporting local government communicators.
