The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has adopted six small area plans as amendments to the county’s 2045 Unified Plan. The decision was made during a board meeting on Tuesday and affects the areas of Bethesda, Centerville, Killian Hill, Northbrook Parkway, Oakbrook Parkway, and Venture Drive.
Each plan was developed in collaboration with local residents and businesses and includes recommendations related to land use, housing, economic development, mobility, and open space.
“These plans reflect what we heard directly from the people who live, work, and do business in these communities,” said Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “They help us take a proactive approach to growth while honoring the character and needs of each area.”
Matt Dickison, Planning and Development Director for Gwinnett County, highlighted the importance of community involvement in creating these plans. “With input from hundreds of residents and stakeholders, each plan outlines a clear vision and path forward,” said Dickison. “This helps us target resources where they’ll have the most impact.”
The newly adopted plans are now part of Gwinnett County’s strategy for long-term management of growth and development.
Gwinnett County continues to see changes in its population dynamics. For example, enrollment at county schools increased by less than 0.1% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). In that same year, schools enrolled a total of 190,044 students (https://www.gadoe.org/), with white students making up 18% of the student body—making them the third largest ethnic group among students (https://www.gadoe.org/).
