The Joint Appropriations Committee, chaired by House Appropriations Chairman Matt Hatchett and Senate Appropriations Chairman Blake Tillery, convened this week for budget hearings. The sessions included presentations from the Governor and state agency leaders. Lawmakers are set to continue with subcommittee budget hearings during the legislative session before passing both the Amended Fiscal Year 26 Budget and Fiscal Year 27 Budget. Passing a balanced budget remains the only constitutional requirement for the general assembly.

Governor Kemp’s requests for the Fiscal Year 27 budget were among the main topics highlighted during these hearings.

On Wednesday, members of the Gwinnett Chamber attended an On Topic Legislative Update Breakfast featuring Lt. Governor Burt Jones. During this event, Lt. Governor Jones discussed his priorities in economic development, infrastructure, and workforce.

Lawmakers are scheduled to return to the Capitol next week for Legislative Days six through nine.
