Georgia State University announced on Mar. 17 that it will hold its eighth annual Georgia State Day, a fundraising event to support student opportunities, on Tuesday, April 21.

The event aims to bring together alumni, students, faculty, staff and donors to contribute to programs across the university that help increase opportunities for students and advance the institution’s mission.

Last year’s Georgia State Day saw record-breaking results with more than $1 million raised for student support for the first time. Nearly 2,000 donors contributed over 2,300 gifts, benefiting almost 300 university programs designed to open doors for students and foster their success. The event also featured the largest amount of challenge gift dollars in the history of Georgia State University’s giving days.

Tabatha Michel, interim vice president for University Advancement and interim president of the Georgia State University Foundation, said: “Georgia State Day spotlights our students’ unlimited potential and celebrates the outstanding things they can accomplish when they get the support they need, while energizing our alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends to uplift and inspire Panthers.”

Michel added: “Whether you give to scholarships that lessen financial burden, support innovative programs or contribute to an area of the university closest to you, your gift on Georgia State Day provides students with something meaningful that lasts beyond the event itself, the knowledge that someone believes in their goals, ambitions and success.”

This year’s event will begin at 10 a.m. on April 21 and last one day, nine hours and thirteen minutes—a tradition honoring Georgia State University’s founding year of 1913. Supporters can participate by establishing a giving challenge to multiply donations’ impact, serving as a Champion by encouraging others through social media posts or simply making a gift.

More information about donor impact is available at giving.edu.edu. Details about participating in this year’s event can be found at thestateday.gsu.edu.
