The Georgia State University Honors College will host the next session of its annual New Angles on Human Rights (NAHR) series, titled “Muddied Waters,” on Monday, October 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will focus on the issue of access to clean water as a human rights concern.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Lelani Mannetti, assistant professor of urban environmental sustainability at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and a conservation ecologist. Panelists include Dr. Mona Hanna, director of Rx Kids and recognized for her work in uncovering the Flint, Michigan water crisis; John Dwyer, president and CEO of KEMRON Environmental Services; Monica Iyer, assistant professor of law with expertise in climate change, environment, human rights, and international law; and Rachel Scarlett, assistant professor of geosciences specializing in urban water systems and environmental justice.
The evening will start at 5:30 p.m. with a moderated discussion followed by an audience Q&A session. A reception and book-signing will follow the conversation.
“The Honors College encourages all members of the GSU community and external guests to attend and participate in this important conversation. NAHR events are designed to challenge conventional thinking and inspire action by examining pressing global issues through a human rights framework,” according to the Honors College.
The Honors College at Georgia State University serves high-achieving students by providing a supportive environment that fosters curiosity, academic achievement, research participation, community service, and career exploration.
