Over the past week, reports have circulated about possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity near Georgia State University’s campus. According to university officials, none of these reports have been confirmed.

Georgia State University’s main campus is located in downtown Atlanta, with additional campuses in five other cities. The university noted that its proximity to various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies means it is common to see officers near campus buildings. Additionally, many areas around the university are public spaces where members of the public, including law enforcement officers, may be present.

The university acknowledged that news from other parts of the country may cause concern among students and staff. “It is important that we remain calm and rely on verified information,” the statement said.

International students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to stay in contact with the Office of International Student & Scholar Services for support and guidance.

“If law enforcement were to enter a classroom or office space and request to see an individual or ask for documents, please contact the Georgia State University Police Department (GSUPD) at 404-413-3333 immediately so they can respond and assist. The Office of Legal Affairs will be involved as appropriate,” the university advised.

The message concluded by thanking community members for supporting each other and maintaining a calm environment on campus.
