Georgia Serves has announced it will distribute nearly $5 million in federal AmeriCorps funding to 17 organizations throughout the state for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The $4,951,957 in grants will support approximately 613 AmeriCorps members who will work on issues such as education, economic opportunities, health, homelessness, disability support, and financial literacy.

Organizations receiving grants include the Atlanta Police Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Breakthrough Atlanta, Inc., Communities in Schools of Georgia, Family Scholar House, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Hands On Atlanta, Kennesaw State University Research and Services Foundation, New American Pathways, One World Link (for both Rural Georgia AmeriCorps Program and OWL Public Health AmeriCorps), Relay Graduate School of Education, Sewa International Inc., Teach for America – Metro Atlanta, The Scholarship Academy Inc., and the University of Georgia Research Foundation (for both Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps Project and Georgia College Advising Corps).

AmeriCorps’ funding approach is designed to leverage an additional $3 million from private sector partners and foundations to increase program impact. In addition to these grants, the Corporation for National and Community Service will provide over $3 million in Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards for participating members.

Since its launch in 1994, more than one million Americans have served with AmeriCorps nationally. Together they have contributed over 1.5 billion hours of service and earned more than $3.6 billion in educational scholarships. More than $1 billion from this amount has been used by participants to repay student loans.

Upon completion of a full term of service, full-time AmeriCorps members may receive an education award up to $7,395 that can be applied toward college tuition or loan repayment. The specific award amount depends on member status.

Each year across the United States, around 75,000 AmeriCorps members serve at over 21,000 schools and nonprofit organizations. Their roles range from disaster recovery to supporting first-generation college students seeking higher education. Members also mentor youth; connect veterans with jobs; care for seniors; reduce crime; fight opioid addiction; and address other key community needs.

AmeriCorps is a federal agency overseeing national volunteering through its programs such as AmeriCorps and Senior Corps. Further details about joining or learning more about the organization are available at https://americorps.gov/ and https://americorps.gov/join.
