A research team that includes Dr. Umar M. Khokhar, associate professor of information technology at Georgia Gwinnett College, has identified significant vulnerabilities in a widely used Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) security system. RFID tags are common in various sectors such as retail, healthcare, and personal identification cards.
The team’s findings detail how hackers can take advantage of these weaknesses. The study also suggests a new approach designed to improve the security of RFID technology and make it more resilient in the future. Their work was published on September 2, 2025, in the International Journal of Information Security.
