Members of the Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) chapter of the Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS) were recognized at the organization’s 73rd annual convention, which took place at Kennesaw State University on November 1. The GGC chapter, known as the Gwinnett Grizzly Bears Association of Nursing Students, was named East District Chapter of the Year for the second year in a row.

Olivia Melville, a student from GGC, received the Novant Health Image of Nursing Award during the event.

Several GGC nursing students and one faculty member were elected to positions on the GANS board. Enrique Gonzalez-Leon was chosen as president; Aishat Olaoluwa as second vice president; Corissa Howard as public relations director; Olivia Melville as publications director; Alma Cabron as legislative director; Cindy Sanchez as community health director; Melantha Belyakov as East District director; and Margaret Hornsby as nominations and elections chair. Dr. Kelli Shugart, an assistant professor of nursing at GGC, will serve as presidential consultant.

The chapter also submitted a resolution authored by students Jalise Felder, Kyla Mesa, Anh Do, Logan Boykins, and Megan Coyne. The resolution was adopted and passed at the convention.
