Georgia Gwinnett College announced on April 13 that it will celebrate Earth Week with a series of public events from April 20 to April 24. The college plans a range of interactive activities focused on sustainability and environmental awareness, all of which are free and open to the public.
The initiative aims to encourage the community to learn about sustainable practices and highlight the importance of protecting natural resources. Aubrey Dyer, director of GGC’s Institute for Environmental Science and Sustainability, said, “Earth Week is a chance to learn about our environment and sustainability practices that can be incorporated into our daily lives. It’s a reminder of the importance of protecting our natural resources for today and future generations.”
Events begin Monday with Mixed Media Monday in Building B, where participants can view an art showcase featuring upcycled creations by students, faculty, and staff or create their own eco-friendly artwork. On Tuesday at the Microfarm behind the Convocation Center, attendees can join a pollinator workshop focusing on pollinators’ role in ecosystems.
Wednesday features a Sustainability Fair & Grizzly Thrift at the Daniel J. Kaufman Library patio where campus and community organizations will share practical ways to reduce waste and conserve energy. Thursday’s Adopt-a-Road Cleanup invites volunteers to meet at Building I for a local roadway cleanup effort.
The week concludes Friday with Grizzly Green Connections Alumni Panel in Building B, Room 1000. Here, alumni will discuss how they have integrated sustainability into their careers through service and leadership.
