The Georgia Department of Community Affairs announced on March 10 the launch of Georgia Rehoused, a new pre-application process for communities seeking funding to reduce unsheltered homelessness. The initiative aims to streamline how local organizations apply for state and federal housing funds by using a single pre-application to determine eligibility across multiple funding opportunities.

The new process is designed to help communities demonstrate their plans for reducing homelessness and receive guidance from DCA staff on meeting basic eligibility requirements. By assessing readiness through the pre-application, DCA can better allocate limited resources and set appropriate award timelines.

Christopher Nunn, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, said, “The Georgia Rehoused Grant is a new way to bring innovative and stable housing opportunities to Georgia. We are seeing creative housing solutions introduced across the country, and we know Georgia communities and local partners are ready to provide similar opportunities.”

To participate, all organizations must submit their pre-applications electronically through the designated portal with complete documentation. Only those who complete this step will be eligible for the full application once it becomes available. Pre-applicants will receive recommendations from DCA staff either to proceed with a full application or address additional requirements before moving forward.

Key dates in the first award cycle include the release of pre-applications on March 10, notices of funding on March 31, closure of pre-applications on April 7 at 5:00 p.m., competitive application closure on May 11, anticipated award notifications during the week of June 6, and final commission approval on June 23.

Eligibility criteria require that applicants form collaborative partnerships led by local governments representing community interests, show how proposed funds will reduce unsheltered populations locally, and be registered in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). More details about eligibility can be found on the Georgia Rehoused webpage.

Questions regarding the grant program can be directed via email as provided in official communications.
