The Georgia Center of Innovation is working with businesses in the state to support sustainable water treatment practices, particularly in industries that rely on large volumes of water such as oil and gas. The Center focuses on helping companies adopt circular and sustainable approaches to managing waste products, including wastewater.

Ecologix Environmental Systems, based in Alpharetta, is one company that has partnered with the Center. Ecologix manufactures and integrates wastewater treatment equipment for sectors including oil and gas, food processing, manufacturing, and automotive. The company’s relationship with the Center has provided access to consulting services during important phases of its development.

Consultants from the Georgia Center of Innovation helped Ecologix identify new opportunities in leasing frac water treatment systems to oil companies. This was made possible by the Center’s understanding of increased demand for treated water within the oil industry. As a result, Ecologix now assembles integrated treatment systems on-site that can process 2,000 gallons per minute.

The partnership between Ecologix and the Center has supported business growth across different areas. Ecologix has supplied wastewater treatment systems for facilities such as Kia Motors’ paint line in West Point, Georgia. The company also developed technology for the Army Corps of Engineers to remove algae from power plant waters in Florida.

According to representatives from the Georgia Center of Innovation: “Helping businesses with efficient, sustainable waste stream management is just one facet of the Center of Innovation. The Center is one of the state’s most unique economic development programs, and a value-added benefit that helps businesses connect to resources, collaborate in research, and grow in the marketplace.”
