Union members from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in Florida convened in Tallahassee for a five-day legislative conference organized by the IAM Florida State Council. The event brought together union members and retirees who met with state legislators to advocate for labor rights, higher wages, and protections for pensions and Social Security.
Leaders at the conference highlighted the need to resist legislation that could undermine unions’ ability to bargain collectively or threaten workers’ financial security. “Leaders and activists emphasize the importance of opposing anti-union legislation that threatens the collective bargaining power and financial stability of the working class.”
The group’s efforts included direct engagement with lawmakers, aiming to represent machinists from regions across Florida, including the Kennedy Space Center, South Florida, and the Panhandle. The council stated that its primary objective was to influence policy decisions affecting union workers’ quality of life and to prepare for political activities ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
