For students at Georgia Gwinnett College, the process of applying for scholarships, grants, and other forms of financial aid starts when the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The FAFSA is required for students who want to be considered for federal grants, work-study programs, and loans. Many state and institutional aid programs also use information from the FAFSA to decide who qualifies. Submitting the application early can help students receive as much financial aid as possible.

“At GGC, we believe cost shouldn’t be a barrier to opportunity,” said Kimberly Jordan, interim vice president of enrollment management and executive director of financial aid. “Filling out the FAFSA is the most important step students and families can take to make college affordable.”

Georgia Gwinnett College offers help with filling out the FAFSA at its Grizzly Welcome Center in building D. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We’re doing all we can to help students and their families navigate the FAFSA application process,” added Jordan.

Students can fill out the form online at no cost. The application asks for details from both the student and usually a parent or guardian.

Applicants are encouraged to have Social Security numbers, tax returns, and financial documents ready before starting. Filing early is recommended because some types of aid are given on a first-come, first-served basis. Students should also check deadlines set by GGC and state authorities so they do not miss any opportunities for assistance.
