Cherry, make way for lime.
Diet Coke has announced the return of its Retro Diet Coke Lime flavor for a limited nationwide release. The beverage, which combines the traditional zero-sugar Diet Coke with a citrus lime twist, was previously available from 2004 to 2018 and is making a comeback in response to consumer demand.
The limited-time product will be available across the United States in 12 packs of 12-ounce cans and single 20-ounce PET bottles. Distribution will include grocery stores, convenience stores, mass retail channels, and select online platforms.
The packaging for Retro Diet Coke Lime will feature nostalgic design elements inspired by the original look, similar to the recent Retro Diet Cherry Coke release that was offered exclusively at Kroger stores.
Ryan Watson, brand director for Diet Coke North America, stated, “We spend a lot of time listening to what our consumers are saying online. People have been signing petitions and DM-ing us asking for flavors from the past, including cherry and lime. We take all of that into account before doing extensive qualitative research and testing to determine our next offerings.”
The new can design incorporates neon lime graphics with the classic Diet Coke branding, aiming to attract both longtime fans and younger consumers interested in novelty products.
