The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the release of new Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files in multiple formats, including Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage. These updated geospatial data products enable users to create custom maps using various data sources.

Among the 2025 updates are new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These include information on blocks from 2020 as well as current blocks that have been split since 2020, identified by suffixes. This allows users to connect these geospatial datasets with the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.

Geospatial data released by the Census Bureau covers a range of features such as legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries along with roads and hydrography. The geographic boundary data can be linked with upcoming demographic datasets for 2025 on data.census.gov, making it possible for users to display census tabular data visually on maps.

While TIGER/Line files do not themselves contain demographic information, they provide geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be used to link to relevant demographic datasets provided by the Census Bureau. For guidance on selecting appropriate products, users are directed to consult the TIGER Data Products Guide page.

There is no news release associated with this product; only a tip sheet was issued.
